Capping machine for PET bottles
PET bundles for drinks are very popular however they can have their problems and a manufacturer wanted to solve the perennial hard to open sealing cap! Not just that, some retailers also complain of loose or incorrectly sealed bottles as well as those sealing caps that were hard to open.
The reason for this quality issue can be found in the mechanical sealing heads with a torque coupling. The sealing torque level depends on the speed of the filling system due to the mechanical coupling of the upstream filling system and the capping machine.
In co-operation with a manufacturer of filling and capping systems, a complete solution was developed where each sealing head is controlled by a servo drive. The servo drive not only specifies the default capping torque, but the actual value is also used for continuous quality control. The sealer is mechanically independent of the filling system and is electronically synchronised. The servo drive solution allows for precise default capping torque’s and better quality control
The additional benefit of this system was that package changes to other bottles or lids could be made at the push of a button without suffering extra changeover time. All the machine recipes can be stored in the controller.
The process used more than thirty servo drives as well as including the complete control technology with motion control and operating panel as well as the machine control software.
This advance allowed the machine manufacturer to focus on his core competencies to successfully introduce the new machine into the market and as a result their customers are delighted with the outcome, higher production, less maintenance and of course reduced costs.
